Celebrating Jay Savulich of Rising Tide Capital
Empowering Entrepreneurs for Two Decades
For over 20 years, Rising Tide Capital (RTC) has been a beacon of support for aspiring entrepreneurs across New Jersey. At the helm of this mission is Jay Savulich, whose dedication to helping adults start and grow successful businesses has transformed lives and communities alike. With a deep commitment to equity and empowerment, Jay and his team have partnered with HANDS to bring resources and opportunities to Orange.
“We know the business world is not an equal playing field,” Jay explained. “Through information sharing, community building, and asset networking, we’re helping people overcome barriers and succeed. It’s not rocket science, but it does require commitment and collaboration.”
A Longstanding Partnership with HANDS
Rising Tide Capital has been working with HANDS for over a decade, a partnership that began when Pat Morrissy invited RTC to collaborate. The first RTC office outside of Jersey City was established in the HANDS office, and their “Communities in Cities” classes were hosted in the school across the street. This collaboration laid the groundwork for impactful initiatives that have strengthened Orange’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
“HANDS has been a remarkable partner,” Jay shared. “Their embedded presence in the community allows them to understand the unique needs and challenges of Orange. Together, we’ve been able to deploy grant programs, support retail corridors, and help businesses weather the effects of COVID.”
One of RTC’s cornerstone programs is the 12-week Community Business Academy, which equips participants with the tools and knowledge needed to launch and sustain their ventures. Through HANDS, this program has reached countless entrepreneurs in Orange, providing them with critical education and resources.
The strength of the partnership between RTC and HANDS lies in their long-term commitment to the community. “Both organizations are here for the long haul,” Jay said. “That willingness to stay and support over time is what makes a real difference. It’s about being present, listening, and responding to the needs of the community.”
The Inspiration Behind the Work
Jay’s journey into this work is rooted in his own experiences as an entrepreneur. Before joining RTC, he managed restaurants in New York City and taught adults how to tell their stories through video technology. Those experiences revealed to him the inequities faced by many and inspired him to level the playing field.
“I’ve had opportunities others didn’t,” Jay said. “I wanted to be part of the work that helps people overcome barriers to success. Everyone deserves a fair chance, and education or lack of resources shouldn’t be a barrier.”
As RTC continues to expand its impact, Jay sees endless potential for Orange to grow as a hub for entrepreneurship and innovation. With the combined efforts of RTC, HANDS, and the community, he believes the future of Orange is brighter than ever.
“Orange is poised for greatness,” Jay said. “With the right support and resources, its entrepreneurs can lead the way in building a thriving, equitable future for all.”
