Housing and Neighborhood Development Services, Inc. (HANDS) is a nonprofit community development corporation founded in 1986 and known in the community development field as an innovator in resident-driven neighborhood revitalization.

HANDS' mission is to empower residents to create neighborhoods of choice—places where people can and do choose to raise their families and run their businesses. The vision is for Orange and neighboring cities to be composed of healthy, robust neighborhoods that provide security and opportunity for all residents and where low and moderate-income families have access to civic, cultural, and natural resources and educational and economic opportunities in "just and beautiful" cities. Work includes economic empowerment programs, real estate development, asset/property management, and lead remediation. HANDS is a chartered affiliate of NeighborWorks® America.

HANDS has combined two positions: Administrative Assistant and Program Assistant for the Lead Remediation and Abatement Program (LRAP).

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administrative support – Executive Director / five-person staff

  • Retrieving and disseminating mail

  • Manage phone system and messaging

  • Manage general email account

  • Manage digital and physical filing system

  • Knowledge of AppFolio, SalesForce, SAGE, and SharePoint

  • Interface with Resource Management Team

  • Schedule board meetings, coordinate board communications, update board rosters

  • Obtain certificates of good standing

  • Assist with event planning and implementation

  • Supervise equipment purchase and leasing

  • Supervise supply purchases

  • Manage office accounts

  • Coordinate with IT Support to resolve issues

  • Ability to take initiative, be proactive, and produce your own list of projects and priorities; a wide degree of creativity and latitude; self-motivated and well-organized.

PROGRAM ASSISTANT FOR LEAD REMEDIATION and ABATEMENT PROGRAM (LRAP)

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Program Assistant for LRAP assists with providing the successful delivery of the HANDS lead services, including customer outreach, applicant intake, documentation and reporting, customer service, and general office support. This position will work closely with the Lead Construction Manager, Lead Coordinator, and other staff engaged in lead services, such as training and outreach. This position interfaces with a variety of organizational personnel, external agencies, customers, and the public.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and implement program outreach and marketing for target customers

  • Conduct intake interviews and collection of documents for determining qualified applicants for lead programs

  • Provide outstanding customer service to customers, vendors, health departments and program applicants.

  • Assist in the preparation of regularly scheduled reports

  • Perform administrative duties such as applicant file prep, scanning, filing, etc.

  • Maintain computer and manual filing systems

  • Manage sensitive information in a confidential manner

QUALIFICATIONS: Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent / College education

  • Experience in community-based projects and programs

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Proven administrative experience

  • Strong organizational and planning skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

  • Willingness and ability to learn new software

  • Reliable transportation, proof of insurance and a valid driver’s license

  • A flexible schedule and the ability to provide services on weekends and evenings, as needed

  • Ability to work with a positive and professional attitude; ability to work well with diverse personalities, in a team or individually; excellent organizational skills, and a high level of attention to detail.=

Preferred, But Not Required

  • Knowledge or experience in lead and healthy homes field

  • Spanish/Haitian Creole language proficiency

  • Experience with Salesforce

Position Details: Hybrid (in-office/WFH); 40 hour per week; salary requirements discussed.
