HANDS believes that intentionally creating an “artist-presence” in a concentrated area will attract customers, new businesses, restaurants, new residents and more artists. The 100 spaces will be a mix of live/work residential (for-sale and rental), retail, work studios, program and teaching space and more. HANDS owns or has site control of all the sites necessary to create the critical mass of 100 Arts spaces.

The Arts spaces will be dedicated to arts occupancy and remain long-term affordability using public subsidy combined with occupancy and resale restrictions. In partnership with DCA, existing housing programs will be used to make the residential units affordable to low and moderate income artists and preserve the affordability and arts occupancy for the long-term.
